Here is what we see when we open PSP for the first time.
I am using PSP X1.
However, the tutorials can be used with the previous versions.

Close the Learning Center by clicking on X.
To find the Learning Center again, select: View
Then under Palettes, see Learning Center.
Check it or click on it to make it show.

But I am closing the Learning Center now to leave more room to work.

Close the Toggle organizer by clicking on the X.
To find it again, select the icon: Toggle organizer.

Now, I am closing it by clicking on the icon.

We find the tools on the left, now dimmed out, therefore inactive.

On the right we have the Palettes: Materials and Layers.
In Materials we have in the foreground the black color and in the background
the white color.
We can, with the two small arrows, switch the colors back and forth.
We can also close off the foreground or the background.

We have three choices in how to view the colors:
Frame, Rainbow and Swatches.

In the current Foreground Color choice, we find Color, Gradients and Patterns .
In the center, we find : Textures.
This also applies to the current Background Color choice.

Under View make sure that:
Rulers and Guides are turned on.
Toolbars: Standard, Status and Tools are turned on.
Pallets: Layers, Materials and Tool Options are turned on.
Organizer Mode:  According to the version of PSP,
we have two choices to view the Organizer Mode : Pallets or (and)  Document

Do not hesitate to use "Help" for more complete information.
The "Help" choices are Contents, Index and Search.

Contents: Click on "Workspace Tour", "Using tools" .
You will find that the information appears in the window on right-hand side.

Index: find what you want by typing a keyword.
Example: keyword "Layers", choose "copying" and click Display.

Search: Search by typing a keyword.
Example: keyword "Materials", then click "List Topics".
Choose "Using the materials palette" and then click "Display".

In the next video : Opening a new document.
